As of a hour or two ago, settings now work again!
Sort of. Well, they work exactly as you remember, which is something kassah and sproctor are changing - they are still diligently working on a new settings interface and system, something far less clunky. However, thanks to a very diligent non-coder, and resident of our IRC channel, Deke, we have fixed the old bug that prevented the saving of settings. Kassah then went through, fixed the build system, and released an updated build. So, if you update, you can have settings again!
I’ll repeat that. Deke, who in his own words ’speaky no java’ managed to find the bug, as the dev focus is on new settings it hadn’t been looked for. So, all thanks to him.
Also in the new build are improved handling of variables passed to functions, the WSL GETTIME and GETSTATUS functions from the wishlist, and numerous bug fixes.
In sproctor’s dev branch, but not published yet, ‘highlight entire line’ is fixed, and sounds are asynchronous again. Coming to a build near you soon!
Many of you may have noticed a lack of updates recently, and as you all know, settings just refuse to save. This has been an ongoing problem for a while. About a month ago, the Warlock Team decided to take the plunge, we turned off the automated build system, and proceeded to rip out every trace of the old settings. We started over. Yes that’s right, we ripped all the old, messy code that governed your character’s preferences out, and started anon, trying to make something better.
There are consequences to starting over, one is that this takes an extended period of time, during which, other things are not getting fixed. We apologize for this, but we see it as a necessary evil to take care of one of the biggest problems that has historically plagued Warlock. We are determined to put this devil to rest once and for all.
Once we put this to rest, and a month or two goes by while we work out the bugs with the snapshot users. You will see our last alpha, the third in the series. We will then be focusing on bringing our software up to “beta” quality.
Thank you all for your patience! In the end, we will all be greatly rewarded with a more stable, more useful Warlock!
Warlock is now upgraded to Eclipse 3.5.1. The hope is, this will bring us new platform choices, and eventually solve some issues that Ubuntu 9.10 brought about. If you have a bug, please let us know. We’re always looking for new issues to resolve.
We’re all drunk on eggnog. Dragging through work, monday is over, tuesday is nigh. All that’s left is New Years, can we truely survive?
As Warlock moves into the new year, let’s set some new goals. So please come by IRC and let us know where your priorities lay. What is that is most important to you? Do you want to get involved?
Thanks to Wealand and Hellcat on IRC for donating the starts of a fund to get the Developers Dragon Realms and GemStone 4 accounts. Donations can be sent to kassah@warlock.cc via PayPal. These donations will go straight to making sure that the developers have uninterupted game access for testing.
Donations are optional, they don’t yet give you anything special, just helps to keep us connected and developing.
